adrenaline

adrenaline
(= epinephrine)
A hormone secreted (with noradrenaline) by the medulla of the adrenal gland, and by neurons of the sympathetic nervous system, in response to stress. The effects are those of the classic "fight or flight" response, including increased heart function, elevation in blood sugar levels, cutaneous vasoconstriction making the skin pale, and raising of hairs on the neck.
